It’s no secret that it’s hard to get seen on Society6. I’ve made a concerted effort to upload work that has the “look” about it – my scratchboard art, a few pattern repeats which look great on totes – I even sold a tote or two. But none of those magical “your art has been chosen to be featured in the Society6 print shop” emails came my way.
Then I started painting with all the choice four letter words gone missing. Not a single one was given, yep.
And the paintings – as I discussed in this post scared me in fascinating ways. They were scary, but more increasingly they are less scary and more fun. But I couldn’t bring myself to put them into the S6 shop I had, much as I might try. They just were not at home.
Generally this is called “evolution” and it’s a reason to trim the hedges of one’s presentation anyway. But I decided to commit to these creatures. I’m uncertain about them, but everyone I’ve shown them to has been very positive. I’m going to assume that you guys are smarter than I am, I’m going to trust my viewers, I’m going to trust that I am doing things I know how to do, without realizing that I am doing them.
So, not much more than an hour after posting her, I got this little notice re: “Queen of the Night”
Congrats! We’re excited to let you know that your Print “Queen of the Night” has been selected to be included in the Society6 Shop.

I think there’s a lesson in here about trying too hard, or trying too hard about the wrong things.
